Phú Sơn is a small village of around 200 families. In contrast to Thuy Bang, Phu Sơn is a highland village and is also a forgotten village, 99% of population in this village moved here from the city after 1995 for land reclamation and agriculture work, because the zones were supposed to be self-sufficient, so the living conditions were exceptionally harsh, poor infrastructure, no health services and other social programs. After 35 years, even living condition has been better, thatched house has been transformed to raw concrete (no window), each family has a small patch of rice field to produce rice for house whole, but health and social services are still very limited in this village. Many secondary and high school students have to walk 17kms from home to school every day. Patients have to travel 8kms to a nearby clinic, equipped with one nurse and no medicine, the nurse then refer patient to district hospital (30kms away).
The Phu Son library project is 100% funded by TCF which includes:
- Text books, reference books, dictionaries, fiction and non-fiction books
- Book shelve
- reading lamps
Apart from setting up the library, we also donate shoes, warm clothes and the event ends with singing contest and outdoor games
